Internal Medicine Program Clinical Sites
Private Practice Experience
The Resident's Practice simulates a private practice experience for all categorical interns and residents. It is supervised by a faculty of academic General Internists, housed in a new, modern on-site facility which is adequately staffed and supplied. Patients are seen by interns and residents during the +1 week every 5 weeks and followed longitudinally throughout the three-year training program. Residents share night and weekend coverage of the practice. Lectures on outpatient medical topics are given by the faculty at the beginning of each clinic session.
As part of the new 4+1 schedule, interns and residents also will visit a "second site" for 2 half days of their outpatient week which occurs every 5 weeks. There they will work closely with an Internal Medicine attending at a private office. Again, patients will be followed longitudinally by housestaff in that private clinic throughout the training program.
