Podiatry Program Curriculum

First and Second Year

RWMC Residents follow a comprehensive curriculum, rotating through many disciplines and interacting with a range of patients, pathology, and attendings.

Third Year

Third year residents focus their time between Podiatric Surgery throughout the year, Orthopedic Foot/Ankle with a fellowship trained Foot/Ankle Orthopedist (20 weeks), and Office Rotation. Additionally, they are allowed two months of Director approved elective time, and spend two weeks in Behavioral Medicine.

RWMC Residents have the opportunity to participate in many educational activities, including:

  • Weekly Journal Club
  • Biweekly Attending Lectures (average of 3/week)
  • Monthly RI State Society Meeting
  • Annual New England ACFAS Surgical Complications Seminar-Rhode Island Based
  • Annual Newport Surgical Seminar held by Doctor’s Hospital, Ga
  • Monthly Quality Assurance Meeting
  • Cadaver Workshops
  • Independent Research

A Typical Day

6-6:30 a.m. Inpatient rounds.
6:45 a.m. Daily resident meeting.
7:30 a.m. Surgical cases begin.
  After surgeries are finished for the day, residents complete consults, floor work, pre-admission testing, and may visit attending offices.
  Evening workshops or lectures complete the day.
