After-Hospital Care

Nowadays, with pressures being placed on hospitals and physicians to return patients home earlier and earlier after they've received care, there is ever-greater need for medical care beyond the hospital room. To ensure the best possible recovery in the most comfortable environment, we offer patients a comprehensive range of after-hospital care:

Subacute Care
Technically still part of the hospital campus, our Subacute Care Unit is the first of its kind in the state and one that, for four consecutive years, has received the highest grade available from the Rhode Island Department of Health. In our Subacute Care Unit, patients who don't need a full range of acute care services-but who still require medical attention in a secure environment-can receive the skilled nursing and rehabilitation they need for optimal recovery.

Home Care

Our Home Care team is made up of registered and licensed practicing nurses, licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and social workers who provide care to an average of 5,000 patients each month. Our home care services run the gamut from routine dressing changes to technically sophisticated care like administering intravenous antibiotics, chemotherapy, or steroid therapy to overseeing patient use of high tech respiratory equipment. With our depth of specialty medical expertise and technical services, we're making it possible for more and more people to recover in the best place of all--home. For information about how to access Home Care services, please call 401-456-2273.

Elmhurst Extended Care
The only nursing facility in the state affiliated with a hospital, Elmhurst Extended Care is dedicated to providing the most comfortable and comforting home environment possible. Whether for an indefinite stay or for short-term rehabilitation after surgery or illness, our care is administered by a compassionate team of physicians, nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, dieticians and activity professionals. All are dedicated to the physical, psychological, and psychosocial well being of your loved one living in our beautifully-appointed and state-of-the art equipped facility. For as long as your loved one is in our care, our goal is to make his or her transition from home or hospital to nusing care living a pleasant one for everyone concerned.
