Gastroenterologists to utilize advanced technology for diseases of the pancreatico-biliary system
In August, the Division of Gastroenterology at Roger Williams will begin utilizing the SpyGlass DS Direct Visualization System to provide more accurate biopsies and improve the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the pancreatico-biliary system, including pancreatic cancer. The SpyGlass system enables high resolution imaging and therapy during an ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde) procedure to target biopsies and fragment stones. This may result in more efficient evaluation and help reduce the need for additional testing and repeat procedures compared to traditional ERCP. It can also help patients receive treatment sooner. More than 500,000 Americans undergo ERCP procedures each year. The Division of Gastroenterology at Roger Williams operates under the direction of Dr. Alan Epstein.
