Roger Williams mammography records successful state inspection
On October 21, the mammography department at Roger Williams Medical Center underwent a successful annual inspection by the state Health Department. Special thanks to mammography technologist Lee Papa, RT(R)(M) for her work before and during the inspection. The mammography department is accredited by the American College of Radiology, licensed by the State of Rhode Island and certified by the FDA.
The Mammography Quality Standards Act was signed into law in 1992 to establish national quality standards for mammography. As part of a facility's mammography life cycle, it goes through two important initial phases -- accreditation and certification. Facilities must be inspected annually, have an annual medical physics survey, perform periodic quality control tests, and take corrective action, where applicable. In 2015, Roger Williams received a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a review by the American College of Radiology.
