Providence
and Rhode Island -- A Great Place to Learn
RWMC
and Rhode Island are both small jewels in the hectic Northeast corridor.
The safe, uncrowded cities and towns and the friendly first-rate
training convert many "outsiders" to "Rhode Islanders"
for life.
Many
previous students liked what they experienced and chose to stay:
over half of our private practice internists are graduates of our
training program. This tradition further humanizes the housestaff
experience since the attendings identify with those in training.
Rhode
Island is located in the southeastern corner of New England within
easy traveling distance of several major northeast cities: 60 miles
from Boston, 180 miles from New York City and under 350 miles from
Montreal, Canada. Amtrak's High Speed Rail in downtown Providence
has cut travel time to Boston to 30 minutes, and to just 2 hours,
25 minutes for New York City.
The
state offers a high standard of living and much natural beauty packed
into just 1214 square miles. Sixty percent of that is covered by
woodlands, and there are over 400 miles of coastline offering beaches
of every type. There are professional sports franchises (baseball
and hockey) as well as a full college sports scene. With 37 golf
courses, it's probably no surprise that Rhode Island was home to
the first open golf tournament in 1895. And only 48 miles from border
to border means activities, historic sites, and world-class restaurants
are just a short drive away.
Providence,
a friendly city of 173,000, boasts an active arts and theater community,
as well as universities and museums that add to the city's rich
cultural offerings. Renovation of the city's waterfront with parks,
office space and upscale shopping has led to our "Renaissance
City" nickname. And Providence County offers 1,200 acres of
public parks and miles of bike paths winding through the waterfront
and wildlife preserves.
Come
visit and see for yourself. Providence offers many fine hotels,
inns, and bed-and-breakfasts, offering a first-class chance to experience
the Ocean State first hand. Helpful links include:
