The Podiatric Residency program, with two residents in each of the three years of training, is approved for RPR/PSR24 (Rotating Podiatric Residency/Podiatric Surgical Residency). The podiatry program has developed over the past ten years, moving to Roger Williams Medical Center in 1993 from Cranston General Hospital. In 2006, the program will seeking PM&S 36 categorization from the Council on Podiatric Medical Education.
Educational
Goals
Our mission is to provide an educational continuum designed to prepare
you for graduate work and surgery. Our faculty's primary responsibility
is to provide an atmosphere of mature study, thoughtful inquiry
and useful experience, in which residents can gain a sound basis
for entrance into the field of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. It
is the goal of the residency education committee to fulfill the
ideals of the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) through
a comprehensive three-year training program.
Requirements
RWMC Residents must meet the following requirments:
First
year:
Develop research proposal and begin research
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Second
Year:
Submit original Research proposal
Prepare Case study
ACLS
BLS
Externship
We also currently accept one podiatric extern per month with housing
included. This podiatric medical student will rotate at RWMC for
one month, working closely with the podiatry residents and attendings
to gain further knowledge in the field of podiatric medicine and
surgery. Externship is recommended, but not required. Hospital visitation
is encouraged during the afternoons.
