Core Programs
As is appropriate for a program of post-graduate medical education, responsibility of determining the skills and knowledge base necessary for the individual physician to practice his/her profession competently is shared between the dermatology resident and the training program faculty. While all residents are expected to acquire minimal proficiency in all areas related to the practice of dermatology, it is also understood that each trainee will acquire the knowledge and technical skills appropriate for his/her selected career path and that these knowledge and skill sets will vary among trainees. In this context, the following outline is intended primarily to assist trainees in organizing their personal educational experience, not as an exhaustive or weighted listing of required material. Equivalent guides can be constructed from tables of contents of major dermatology textbooks, dermatology curricula developed by members of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and published from time to time in its Journal, and a wide variety of sources.
