Addiction Services Center

The Addiction Services Center is located on the Roger Williams Medical Center campus at 877 Chalkstone Ave. in Providence, Rhode Island.
Our integrated outpatient program is designed for people who need a structured support system to achieve early recovery from addiction. The ASC is staffed by a multi-disciplinary treatment team including physicians, nurses, and clinicians. We offer a full continuum of services:
Comprehensive Assessment and Evaluation
Every new patient is seen for an initial assessment in order to identify the best course and level of treatment. We strive to schedule initial appointments for all new patients within 3 business days and can often offer same-day appointments.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
The Partial Hospitalization program is designed for medically stable individuals who need the structure and intensity of a daily treatment program, but who can return home safely each evening. This multidisciplinary program runs Monday –Friday, 9am -2pm and the average length of stay is 2 weeks, although this varies depending on patient need. This program is designed for patients who have successfully completed inpatient care, or who are otherwise at risk for needing inpatient hospitalization, and are seeking additional treatment and support to aid with recovery. Maintaining sobriety can be as challenging as attaining sobriety. Patients are educated about the recovery process and provided with the tools needed to stay sober.
Our dedicated team is committed to meeting the needs of each patient. The team develops a personalized treatment plan for all patients that includes individual and group therapy, case management, and psychiatry consultation if needed.
Since our Partial Hospitalization Program is located on the Roger Williams Medical Center campus, patients have access to other medical disciplines should the need arise. Partial Hospitalization provides patients with a roadmap that not only directs them to recovery, but also ensures they don't get lost as they maintain their sobriety.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Our IOP offers group therapy to individuals who need a structured treatment program, but who may not require the intensity of a partial hospitalization program. Patients attend 9 hours of structured group therapy per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am-12pm). This program is run by a multidisplinary team including behavioral health clinicians, nurses, and physicians. Psychiatric consultation is also available.
Outpatient counseling is available at the ASC for patients who are best served by weekly or bi-weekly individual counseling. Every patient in our Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs meets with a behavioral health clinician for individual counseling support during the week; our clinicians are also available for ongoing outpatient counseling after completion of the program.
Early Recovery Group
The Early Recovery group runs weekly on Wednesday evenings. This group is intended for individuals who have had successful treatment but continue to need support from peers for maintaining recovery. Participation requires screening/registration.
Medication Assisted Treatment
Medications are an important element of treatment for many patients, especially when combined with counseling and other behavioral therapies. Patients at the ASC are evaluated, monitored, and treated by our certified addiction medicine physicians who offer Suboxone treatment among other options. MAT is a service available to all patients at the ASC, including patients who are participating in our PHP and IOP. We do not provide Methadone.
We have a nurse case manager who can assist with a range of social service needs for patients enrolled in any of our programs.
Referrals can be made Monday – Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm by calling (401) 456-2362. Patients will participate in a brief phone screening and will be asked to have records from the last treatment provider, along with other relevant medical paperwork if necessary, faxed to this office. Our fax # is (401) 456-6744. We accept most insurances.
