Dual Diagnosis Unit
This twelve-bed unit treats patients with both mental health and substance abuse issues. This is the first unit of its kind located within a general hospital in Rhode Island.
Our treatment team is focused on addressing the needs of patients with acute psychiatric illness and addictive disorders in one comprehensive environment. Following a comprehensive evaluation of patient's psychiatric and medical status, our interdisciplinary team devises an individualized treatment plan.
According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, 37 percent of alcohol abusers and 53 percent of drug abusers also have at least one serious mental health illness. The Dual Diagnosis Unit at Roger Williams offers care for both issues in one comprehensive environment.
This staff of this 12-bed unit works to ensure both the mental and medical care given to each patient is safe and effective. Following a comprehensive evaluation of a patient's psychiatric and medical status, our team devises an individualized treatment plan. By working together in a small, private setting, our team can meet the mental and emotional needs of patients while working closely with family, loved ones and care providers to achieve the best results.
Our unit is exceptional as we are located within Roger Williams Medical Center. That means patients suffering from more than one condition can receive a wide range of treatment in one safe setting. This innovative program provides a therapeutic milieu and intensive treatment program for patients with both medical and mental health issues.
By offering 24-hour intensive nursing and medical supervision, family and care providers can be assured that patients are receiving necessary treatment for each of their illnesses. When treatment for both mental health issues and addictions is required, the Dual Diagnosis Unit at Roger Williams is the premiere source for comprehensive, innovative treatment.
